THE FOXASH WFC FACILITIES NEAR ARDLEIGH
We are very lucky to have superb facilities including three pitches, ample parking and a superb clubhouse. Joining Foxash has great social and health benefits.
THE RULES OF walking football
The Laws that people play the game tend to differ from venue to venue, reflecting both traditions of play and the constraints of the facilities in which the game is taking place.
Welcome to Foxash WFC – North Essex and Suffolk border’s home of Walking Football
We are a group of football enthusiasts, who, although not as quick or skillful as we once were, still enjoy playing the beautiful game. Walking football allows us to do this within the confines of a (mostly) non-contact sport. We are members of Foxash Social & Sports Club, which is located on the A137 between Ardleigh and Manningtree in north east Essex. We mostly play between ourselves or in friendlies with other local teams, but we also go along to the occasional tournament where a more competitive edge can be experienced.
Our aim is to encourage exercise, fitness and social interaction for the over 50s whilst doing
something we enjoy. The game is on a smaller pitch, played from 5 to 8 a-side. The rules are similar to 5-a-side football, BUT no running!!! Also the ball must be under head height.
Foxash Walking Football Club have been going for over a year, new people are always very welcome to come along and join us whether its just to watch, socialise or join in.
We have regular training sessions and those that want to play can join in the occasional matches with other local teams. Do as much or as little as you want at your own pace. All abilities are welcome, even if you have never played football before!

Your frequently asked questions
Despite its rise in popularity, new visitors ask many questions, so we thought we would give you some answers to those questions and a little useful information about joining us.
That is correct. However, all of the other movement you typically associate with football remains the same. As you cannot run the game encourages you to move into space and think quickly about your positioning. Walking football can look like a very attractive game as it requires players to pass and move continually.
Yes, we would advise you come dressed in typical football attire, along with shin pads and suitable footwear. Typically moulded souls or astroturf for harder ground. We don't advise wearing blades and certainly no metal studs.
During the summer we play Thursday nights from 7 pm and Sunday mornings from 10.30 am at our own ground. This costs £3 a week. During the winter we play at Play Football in Colchester. This is an additional £3 fee to pay for the facilities. Also, don't forget to bring some extra cash if you want to join the other players in the bar afterwards.
To join Foxash WFC there is a £10/annum fee. This also means you become a member of the Foxash Social Club and can join in the many events that happen here in Ardleigh.
